Through funding from the Colorado Department of Education and the Boulder Valley School District, the Partnership provides the resources needed to improve the quality and range of service-learning projects in the East Boulder County community.

Service Learning Shakes up the Spring!

Spring 2008 has fired up the students in Lafayette! Over five months, young people throughout the community have engaged in active social action through arts projects in their community. These projects, unveiled on May 21, 2008, shared student identified messages and work to the community.

Ryan Elementary students created an inspirational video to educate the community about the effects of war on our world. Now available on You Tube, this video shares the students' messages about war. Check it out!

Lafayette Elementary students studied the art of photography and the impact of pollution on the environment. After taking numerous photos and seeing their world through the lens of a camera, these students created recyclable grocery bags and are selling them to raise money for local environmental agencies. Check out their photography in our gallery and if you are interested in purchasing a bag call us at 303.926.0306.

Alicia Sanchez Elementary students worked with a local artist, Teri Davis-Padilla, to create a 4 foot by 6 foot mosaic about their school and learned about how they can create a peaceful community. Check out the pictures in the photo gallery!

Escuela Bilingue Pioneer Elementary students worked on a variety of projects ranging from creating peace to environmental change to creating active and healthy lives. Culminating in video projects and a large scale peace mural, these students worked tirelessly to create social change!

Finally, Angevine Middle School students created a culture of health and community within their school by painting a mural in their cafeteria that emphasizes the many ways that we can grow into a healthy community. Emphasizing the importance of knowledge, peace, and service, these students worked hard on the mural that is a permanent installation at their school.

-- Elementary School Student

"[The service-learning workshop] demonstrated best practices
in teaching. This concept is so perfect for providing those real-life
experiences in learning, and I found this day to be so beneficial."
